Building a Coalition

HCCC History

In early 2018, several local United Methodist churches with a common heart to serve those experiencing homelessness or on the verge of becoming unhoused met to discuss how their existing relief ministries might better address recovery and restorative efforts in Cherokee County. Today, six local churches have partnered with various county and city leaders, local businesses, neighboring faith communities, and non-profit ministry organizations to develop the Homeless Coalition of Cherokee County – a more integrated approach to alleviating homelessness.

Our Purpose

The Homeless Coalition of Cherokee County exists to identify, develop and engage in a more holistic model for alleviating the needs of those experiencing homelessness.  These efforts involve integrating present services and ministries as well as identifying needs that remain unmet or underserved throughout the county.  Our goal is to come along side those who are either on the verge of or already experiencing homelessness and help them build bridges of faith, fellowship, and stability to a more hopeful future.

Marianne Butler
Director

Marianne Butler was selected to serve as the Homeless Coalition’s first Director.  She brings to this role over 20 years of diverse experience serving people in need from a professional and spiritual perspective. She has hands on experience working with vulnerable populations ranging from special needs children to aging veterans in the VA Hospital system. Her background, which includes a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The University of Southern Mississippi, lends to the Coalition her knowledge and ability to fully understand the needs of individuals with a broad range of physical, behavioral, and emotional issues from severe psychiatric conditions to those facing urgent financial and quality of life circumstances.

While her background is vast, her heart is even bigger.  It is her compassion for connecting individuals and families with both professional and spiritual guidance that makes her uniquely gifted and qualified to serve in this capacity.  Marianne resides in Woodstock, Georgia along with her husband, two daughters, and various pets. We are honored and grateful to have her passion and experience to help facilitate a more wholistic and integrated approach to bringing relief, recovery, and ultimately restoration to individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Cherokee County.
